Summer is on the horizon and that means lazy, relaxing beach days. Days filled with sunshine, cold slushy cocktails and delicious local seafood. But, this year I’m perplexed, very perplexed.
You see, I grew up on the beaches of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Florida and since moving to South Carolina we frequent our beloved Folly Beach as often as we can. Like every weekend or every other. I never, ever had to worry about finding the right swimsuit. I had a small bikini that fit in my purse and off I went. Now that I’m 50+ that small bikini is not an option. My parts have shifted somewhat and gravity has blessed me (or not). While I’ve never been one to worry about what others think, I suddenly find myself worrying that others might think I’m a 54 year old woman trying to look like a 25 year old again. This midlife transition can be a bit disturbing especially when it comes to beach wear. I know, I know … why should I care? Well it’s because I’m not liking the whole “just let it all hang out” type of sentiments. It just makes me uncomfortable.
In my perplexity, I took to Pinterest to see what the 2016 trend was on swimwear. Boy, was I super excited! I found out that according to the Miami Swim Week one pieces, high-waisted bottoms and tankinis are going to be all the rage this year! I pinned a few of my favs on my Pinterest Board.
If you are experiencing the same problems as myself, then this is good news! I have fell in love with the tankini. It will definitely serve my purpose in hiding my bloaty belly and will offer extra support for the girls. While you can find tankinis at various outlets, i.e. Kohls and Target, I found the cutest, most slimming and certainly very classy tankinis for us ladies in the 50+ arena at Venus!
It comes in 5 colors (Red Hot pictured here) and is very moderately priced at $42.00 for the Tankini Top and $22.00 for the High Waisted Moderate Bikini Bottom.
The top offers full support for our girls, keeping them high at eye level instead of low at waist level lol. The full skirted tankini is flowing without being clingy and the hem sits at the low hip. The bra hook closure can be moderately adjusted as needed. I just love this suit!
Another favorite of mine is the Flowing Tankini Top with the High Waisted Moderate Bikini Bottom.
The Flowing Tankini Top has a full skirt and the hem length is that of a short swim dress. The bandeau design has removable straps and molded foam cups of those of us who need a little extra support! The Flowing Tankini Top come in 3 colors and is moderately priced at $42.00. Venus also offers a High Waist Full Cut Bikini with a full coverage bottom with lower legs and flattering high waist. The High Waist Full Cut Bikini Bottom comes in 3 colors and is priced at $22.00.
If a two piece swimsuit is not your thing and you prefer a one piece. Venus has a beautiful selection of slimming one-piece swimsuits too!
This Slimming Draped One Piece features a Hold U In Control Lining for a slimming effect, a shelf bra with soft foam cups and adjustable elastic straps. I love this swimsuit too! I find it to be super classy for the beach, pool or for boating with friends.
It, too, is moderately priced at $74.00 and comes in 3 color schemes.
Venus has such a beautiful selection of one piece swimsuits it would be difficult to feature each one here.
Another beachwear necessity is a pretty cover up. Especially for those days the sun seems to be at its strongest! This pretty Open Crochet Trimmed Tunic is my favorite. The Crinkle Rayon is perfect for packing away for vacation and the lovely flowing cut looks very stylish.
The Open Crochet Trimmed Tunic comes in 2 colors with a moderate price of $39.00. You really have to peruse their Cover Up selections Venus has some beautiful pieces that would be perfect for the resort, the island party, or just hanging out on the beach for the weekend. Yes, just because we’re 50+ doesn’t mean we have to look like our Grandmothers. We have some beautiful choices to help us with that classy, wise woman look!
Ladies, please be safe while beaching it this year. Please wear your sunscreen and fashion a classy beach hat for the high sun in the afternoon!
